Gastonia has its shares of breweries including Keepsake Brewery and Durty Bull Brewing.

Now. Sugar Creek Brewery, a Charlotte brewery may step up the brewery scene in a big way. The buzz is all about their exciting plans to revitalize the old Cavendish Brewery location with a  new BBQ restaurant called Dixon’s.

A Fresh Spin on a Beloved Space

Let’s be honest—change is never easy, especially when it means saying goodbye to a favorite hangout. The Cavendish Brewery has long been a fixture in the community—a place where pints flowed and stories were shared—with a devoted local following. Now, Sugar Creek Brewery is taking over this storied venue, breathing fresh life into it with a concept that feels both familiar and entirely new. They’re transforming the space and adding a BBQ restaurant, Dixon’s,  that aims to serve up smoky, savory flavors paired beautifully with Sugar Creek’s signature brews.

What’s Next for Sugar Creek?

Plans are still being mapped out. The 2.75 acre property currently houses three buildings. The current Cavendish will be gutted and revamped. A 3,000-square-foot patio will be covered. The mock-up looks fresh and crisp and will hopefully become a place in Gastonia that brings more people to the downtown area. Bringing Sugar Creek Brewing and Dixon’s into Gastonia, with a $2 million purchase price and a large budget for renovations, signals a commitment to an evolving Gastonia community.

While the opening date has not been announced, you can taste Sugar Creek Brewing’s Belgian beer offerings at its location in Charlotte or a new taproom at the Charlotte airport.
